Tales From The Complex

SGA Election Week Day 3

The first day of polling opened today, and it was nearly pure mayhem on the Yard.  Many candidates were out and about trying to cater to potential voters in many different ways.  One candidate was passing out snocones, while the other was giving out bottles of waters.

In the end, it was a pretty eventful day for GSU students.  However, there has been some controversy over the polls.  Grad students are not allowed to vote in the campaigns.  However, grad students pay fees for both the SGA and the royal court.

There has been talk that the grad students have their own SGA, but that is unconfirmed as of right now.  Other than that snafu, the first day of polling went well.

  2. Uhm UHm First day of polling …. “D” where have you been. Voting began at 6:00 pm on Monday.

I must mention that while I lyke the idea of the University taking advantage of our technological advancement, I still believe that the concept of online voting defeats the entire concept of the “Get Up Get Out and Vote”. This undermines the thought of having a debate and royal showcase if nearly 25% of the of the student body was lured into voting before these events. Call me old fashion if you will, because I really dont care. I can clearly see the broader outcome of this if we continue to use this method of voting. Students that are freshman, soon to be freshman, and sophomores will have to three to four years of this laid back, not paying attention to the issues and I believe that this is going to cause a decline in African Americans getting out and voting in real life elections. If not a decline I still still would not predict an increase. You hear many professors and faculty personnel around any university stating, “College prepares us for life or the real world.” Question is this how you vote in the real world. Wake up call you cant vote for Obama, Clinton, and the other guy over the internet. Well you can but surely it will not count. I have wondered was this method of voting invited by a black or white person.
