SGA Election Week Day 3

The first day of polling opened today, and it was nearly pure mayhem on the Yard.  Many candidates were out and about trying to cater to potential voters in many different ways.  One candidate was passing out snocones, while the other was giving out bottles of waters.

In the end, it was a pretty eventful day for GSU students.  However, there has been some controversy over the polls.  Grad students are not allowed to vote in the campaigns.  However, grad students pay fees for both the SGA and the royal court.

There has been talk that the grad students have their own SGA, but that is unconfirmed as of right now.  Other than that snafu, the first day of polling went well.

SGA Election Week Day 2

SGA Elections Day #2 started off with the shocking dismissals of the VP of Student Affairs and SGA Adviser.  No reason has been given for the dismissals, and one is not generally required for at-will employees, even though it is protocol.

No word on if there will be punishments for the rule violations discovered.  I can now confirm that the rule violations have to do with Facebook and pre-campaigning.  While the parties accused will not be mentioned, most students know who they are.

It’s been a wild campaign week so far, and it’s only beginning.  There is still some bubbling about the Miss GSU campaigns, but it’s been under the radar so far.

SGA Election Week Day 1

It’s the first day of the SGA Election campaign and, already, there have been plenty of craziness going on. I’m actually quite shocked at the things I’ve heard and seen. While I won’t get into all of the mess right now, I will say that this is definitely on pace to be one of the messiest campaigns ever.

The sad part is, there aren’t that many people that are campaigning. There have been numerous rule violations that I’ve seen and heard. Hopefully, those on the SGA Elections Commission will make sure that all candidates are treated fairly. If not, it will be a sure and clear-cut sign that corruption exists at this prestigious university.

Snow Day At Grambling?

Snow

I was knocked out as my phone rang at 11:19 a.m. It was our university editor Wanda Peters giving me a ring. I’d just went to sleep about 3 hours earlier, working on some projects so I was tired. However, I was quickly awakened.

“Wake up and look outside…it’s snowing!”

I was at the front door in less than 5 seconds. Snow was coming down HARD before my very eyes. I couldn’t believe it! Snow? In North Louisiana? Crazy! It was the quickest I’d ever gotten dressed to head to Grambling.

Yes…believe it or not…it actually SNOWED at Grambling. To my unofficial count…it snowed for at least 4 hours straight. The last time it snowed, if I remember correctly, was February of 2004. I may not be completely accurate, as I’ll have to do some hunting for the last snow picture I took, but I do remember it snowing somewhere along those lines.

Of course, snowball fights were going crazy (I still owe the Bookstore Manager for pelting me with a snowball!). They were so crazy that the police officers tried to come break up some of them. Unfortunately…some of them were pelted with snowballs as well. The funniest thing was when the cops started arresting students, and the students booed them like they were in the wrong. Very interesting day!

A photo gallery of the Snow Day will be uploaded on Monday, as school was closed before we could get all our photographers together! But rest assured…it was a day that the students of GSU will not forget!
